Social Media Marketing Is Critical In Building Your Home Based Business

Have you been dragging your feet when it comes to using social media marketing to grow your business?

As of, December 31, 2011, Internet World Stats says there are 2.267 billion Internet users in a world with 6.9 billion people. Imagine, nearly 33% of the world popuation goes online! And, 79% of the 347 million people in North America alone use the Internet, according to their stats. Now I don't know about you, but I think that's a pretty good reason to dip your toe into social media marketing.

But, for those still not convinced, check out this next little tidbit.

Amazingly, over 50% of the active Facebook users log on to Facebook every single day, and generate on average, 3.2 billion Likes and Comments per day. Over 500 million engage with Facebook on external sites, and Facebook alone is on pace to reach 1 billion active users this year! These are mind boggling statistics!

Social media is exploding on the world scene so it makes sense that the new way to reach customers, clients and prospects, is through social media marketing. The term Web 2.0 refers to using the Internet in a social setting. It is the interaction between people. It is the essence of social media.

If you Tweet your way through life, jump on Facebook everyday, or connect on LinkedIn, you are participating in Web 2.0. A blog is Web 2.0. RSS feeds are Web 2.0. Wikis are Web 2.0. If you can interact through comments or by contributing to a discussion, you are engaging in Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 just makes sense for social media marketing.

Ads by Google

A friend of mine, who took her business to six figures in six months using Facebook alone. Another friend created a portfolio of six figure income streams simply through blogging and article marketing using multiple sites. And still another one of my mentors has used Twitter to generate a six and seven figure income over the past several years.

Each of these internet marketing masters have tested and refined the steps needed to break free from their jobs or life circumstances. Each of them tapped into social media marketing training that teaches them everything they ever wanted to know about marketing online – and offline for that matter.

My Facebook friend taught me a little marketing strategy, that doesn't cost a dime.

Let me share it with you here. Create a Facebook account if you don't already have one, and start engaging in social media marketing right away. First, choose a niche market that you can relate to. Maybe it's cat owners or golfers, or coin collectors. Next, type the niche name in the search box on Facebook and hit enter.

Look for large groups to connect with. You can join them if they are open groups, but some groups require the Administrator to approve your membership so ask to become a member.

Create a Facebook Fan page, and invite people in your group to like your page. If you switch your account ID, and make your comments in the groups as "your fan page," people will click on your picture to see who you are, and that takes them to your fan page. Make sure your fan page invites them to "Like" it, and then they will get all your updates on their wall. This is where the relationship starts.

Your objective is to create a community on your fan page by encouraging interaction. You can do this by asking questions, taking surveys, Trivia or debates. Ask your fans what they are struggling with right now, and then give them 90% value, with 10% sales sprinkled in it. Be authentic, and the sales will follow.

Post updates on your fan page wall, 3-5 times per day, consistently. You want your fans to keep stopping by to see what interesting little nugget you have to share. And don't forget to post pictures. Ask yourself before you post… "would I want to receive this message? Will the recipient find true value in this, or will they want to block my updates?"

With your community built, your new friends will like you and trust you. People buy from those they like and trust. Your social media marketing is nearly on autopilot at this point, as long as you keep showing up for the party.

5 Ways for Using Twitter for Business

When using twitter for business purposes there are certain techniques that you can employ to maximize it usefulness and minimize your efforts. This particular social networking site offers subtle benefits that many marketers still overlook. The key to maximizing what you can gain is how you go about interacting with the other people on twitter. Value can be found not only in proactively marketing something but also in the general 'chatter' of other twitter users.

Here is a look at 5 subtle behavioral approaches you need to adopt when interacting with other people on twitter to help maximize your business gains.

Listen In On Conversations

Learn to listen in on the conversations of other people on twitter to see what they are talking about. What is the current buzz and why is that topic so popular. Also become familiar with using keyword searches on this site to help you 'target' certain topics to find out what other twitter users are saying.

Avoid 24/7 Sales Pitching

Remember that twitter is a social networking site therefore constant sales pitches would likely be unwelcomed. There will be plenty of opportunities to promote yourself or your business but doing this all the time will only make you seem obnoxious to the other people on twitter.

Mix It Up

Your conversations or contributions should not always focus on your business. This will make you predictable and boring to others. Speak about current news and events or comment on trends. By referring to the trending topics on twitter you will never be at a loss for what currently has captured the attention of others.

Do Not Dump Links

Using links in your tweets is a recommended and effective way to capture the attention of other twitter users. When using this approach however avoid the temptation of inserting links without giving others an idea what the link is all about.

Also avoid using links in your tweets too often because you want others to feel when they see a link that it is something 'special' and not just a routine occurrence.

Add Value to Conversations

Treat your participation on Twitter the same as participating in a 'normal' conversation. Do not just 'barge' in but be polite and wait for an opening. When you do participate keep on the topic and do not try to change it to something that may be more self-serving. People will notice when you do this and tend to avoid or ignore your comments in the future since this is viewed, and rightfully so, as rude.

Always strive to add value to any conversation you participate in because others will also notice this and tend to welcome your participation even more.

When using twitter for business purposes there are certain 'techniques' you can employ that will help make your efforts more efficient and productive. Being a social networking site your primary focus will be on developing a comfortable relationship with other twitter users. By adopting some of the 'approaches' we spoke of above you will find by being less 'aggressive' and more tactful with other people on twitter that your gains will be greater. Along the way you are likely to develop friendships that may be of more value to you both personally and professionally as well.

Can You Really Make Money Taking Online Surveys?

Have you heard of the websites that offer payment in lieu of taking online surveys? Yes this is true. Anyone who has recently browsed the avenues of work-at-home jobs must have seen such alluring ads. It must have made you wonder- how online surveys can make you money. I am here to explain you all that. So, keep reading.

In fact, the online surveys include the whole process that claims to help people to earn money. For that, first you need to register with the website and then file out for consumer surveys. Whether you can earn money out of them or not, is altogether a different story.

The Internet these days is full of such websites that offer to pay their visitors for filling the surveys. As you register on the website, they ask you to fill out a questionnaire that lists your individual "consumer preferences" and "interests". Once you are through with it, you will be requested to wait till they make contact with you for the apt survey.

Do companies actually pay money to know your favorite brand of dog biscuits or how much time you spend viewing a particular television programme? According to the grapevine however, the money doesn't come to you always. The company that seeks for consumer information will directly pay the survey company
, who will pile up the survey details and statistics. A very little amount out of it, if it is any thing, is transferred to the persons who had filled out the online surveys.

If you seriously want to make money through online surveys, you really need to invest your time and money to search for the companies who actually pay money. The legitimate online surveys from genuine companies take quite a long time. They make you think and then give valid answers to fill out the form. The companies do advertise boastfully, but most of them actually end up not paying.

There will also be some companies who will offer you points for incurring their online surveys. You can save up these points for the exchange of money. Imagine the little mouse of your computer could be worth more than 500 points! But the reality of the situation is also that you may get just two to three points per survey.

Some companies enter the survey fillers in a drawing after they complete the survey. The chances of anyone winning these drawings enough number of times or earning part time or full time income are actually very slim. If you will spend your worthy hours filling the online surveys and get a little sum of money as compensation, do you think it is fair?

In your search for the genuine companies, beware of those companies who may require you to give money to get a list of the online survey websites who really pay. If any website asks you for money to let you take online surveys, it can instantly be considered as a scam. You must avoid such sites at all the costs.

Online surveys can get you fun and money both but only when they are genuine. If you consider the online surveys as a source of good income or employment, honey better get a career switch!

Making Money With Social Media - Top Tips

Using social media to promote your online business has become a necessity if you are going to succeed in the Web 2.0 marketplace. Social media has become of the tool of choice by many online business owners for getting their brand established and spreading the word about their online business. Because of this, social media marketing has changed the organic search process and search engines are now starting to index the content that you create on social media sites.

With that said it has become necessary to use social media optimization to drive targeted traffic to your website just like you apply search engine optimization techniques to get your website ranked high in the search engine results.

Understanding Social Media Optimization

When you create a social media marketing campaign you should choose a few different social media tools and then develop strategies for each tool you have chosen. For example, if you have chosen to use Twitter, YouTube, and Digg as tools for your social media marketing campaign, you will develop a specific strategy for each one.

Each strategy you develop must be optimized for the search engines since Twitter content, YouTube videos, and social bookmarking is all recognized by the search engines for indexing.

How to Optimize a Social Media Marketing Campaign

Let's the use the above scenario as an example. If you are using Twitter, YouTube, and Digg as your social media marketing tools of choice, when you create a strategy for each one here are some tips on how to use social media optimization for each component of your social media marketing campaign.

Twitter: If you have used the search engines lately you will find that there is a lot of substance behind 140 character messages. The information you offer on Twitter that is related to your business will be indexed with the search engines. When you plan your strategy with Twitter all of the content you write in your tweets should be optimized for the search engines. When you write content it should include some of the keywords that your prospects use in their searches.

This is not to say you should stuff your tweets full of keywords because that is a "no-no" and will hurt your credibility as a professional. Instead, you should integrate the keywords naturally in your tweets and offer high quality information that is useful to your target audience.

YouTube: You have probably noticed that different videos appear in the search engine results when you conduct a search. If you use a site like YouTube to create educational videos related to your online business, you should optimize the videos for the search engines.

To optimize the videos for the search engines you should name your video files with keywords that your target audience uses and include keywords in the links to your video. Also, place keywords strategically in the content on the web page that contains the video and add keywords to the video title tag and description. If the video is on your website, then create a separate sitemap especially for videos so the search engine spider can easily locate them.

Digg: If social bookmarking is one of your strategies for social media marketing then make all of the content you create on the social bookmarking site keyword rich so your prospects can easily find your content. Any links that you place on the site should also contain keywords just like your domain name.

Based on these examples you can see how social media optimization is important for driving highly targeted traffic to your website. Social media marketing is on the rise and with more of your prospects using mobile devices this makes social media optimization even more important for promoting your online business.
